7 YA Sequels We’ve Waited Years For

7 ya sequels we've waited years for 2015 books

Another Day

another day david levithan

Author: David Levithan

Series: Every Day #2

When It’s Coming Out: August 25, 2015

How Long It’s Been: 3 years

Why We’re Excited: I was struck by the unpredictable and exciting life of A. The book ended on a bit of a cliffhanger so I think a lot of fans just thought that was it – a closed but up-in-air ending. According to the description, “The new book is told from the perspective of A’s love interest, Rhiannon.” WOW SO INFORMATIVE. We’ll just have to find out for ourselves in August.

Shadow Scale

Author: Rachel Hartman

Series: Seraphina #2

When It’s Coming Out: March 10, 2015

How Long It’s Been: 2 years, 8 months

Why We’re Excited: I adored Seraphina! I was struck by its high fantasy dynamic and grumpy heroine. I have been waiting SO LONG for this sequel. It seems like the action is about to take off as well.

“When war breaks out between the dragons and humans, she must travel the lands to find those like herself—for she has an inexplicable connection to all of them, and together they will be able to fight the dragons in powerful, magical ways.”

winter marissa meyer

Author: Marissa Meyer

Series: The Lunar Chronicles #4

When It’s Coming Out: November 10th, 2015

How Long It’s Been: 1 year, 9 months

Why We’re Excited: Anything longer than 1 year is too long for this highly-anticipated FINAL book in the Lunar Chronicles series. I think I am most excited for this Snow White retelling and perspective. I have no doubts this book is going to be epic and amazing and incredible. I’m not excited at all…

Burning Kingdoms

burning kingdoms laruen destefano

Author: Lauren DeStefano

Series: The Internment Chronicles #2

When It’s Coming Out: March 10, 2015

How Long It’s Been: 1 year, 5 months

Why We’re Excited: DeStefano is a beautiful writer, and The Perfect Ruin really showed off her skills. This book also marks a big event in the series, where a huge thing is finally going to be explained and shown. It’ll take the series in a whole new direction, and I’m ready!

The Vanishing Throne

the vanishing throne elizabeth may

Author: Elizabeth May

Series: The Falconer #2

When It’s Coming Out: September 17, 2015

How Long It’s Been: 2 years

Why We’re Excited: YOU GUYS! I have talked endlessly about my love for The Falconer! It is an incredible fantasy with a really unique setting – 1800s Scotland. With the Fey. So yeah, I cannot wait to get my greedy hands on The Vanishing Throne!

Emeralds and Ashes

emeralds and ashes leila rasheed

Author: Laila Rasheed

Series: At Somerton #3

When It’s Coming Out: January 6, 2015

How Long It’s Been: 1 year, 1 month

Why We’re Excited: If you love Downton Abbey, this is basically the YA version. The first two books are pure crack, and I’ll finally have the conclusion to all the upstairs and downstairs drama!! I cannot get enough.

Lair of Dreams

lair of dreams libba bray

Author: Libba Bray

Series: The Diviners #2

When It’s Coming Out: July 7, 2015

How Long It’s Been: 2 years, 10 months

Why We’re Excited: Ok, so, full disclosure. I still haven’t finished The Diviners BUT I blame the person who I lent it to mid-way through (I needed a break from the creepiness) and who moved and took my book with them. RUDE, right? But, I’ll get another copy and finish it before the second book. I probably needed a refresher anyway….

What YA sequels have you been waiting on months or years?

About Lisa Parkin

I'm a hardcore lover of young adult fiction and have been reviewing books since 2011. Other interests include Downton Abbey, heat lightning storms, Harry Potter land and (begrudingly) one orange tabby.

I cannot wait any longer for Winter! I know Fairest is out next week, but it just won’t suffice. I’m also interested to see how Another Day will be. Every Day was such an interesting concept and I truly enjoyed it.

  • I can’t wait for Shadow Scale! I LOVED Seraphina so much 🙂 Also, I bookmarked this list, because it’s even more awesome than your usual lists. You’re doing a great job here, Lisa. Keep it up!

  • Kati Junge

Waiting for WINTER has really been hard! All 3 previous books were just so wonderful, each one topping the previous one… so it is more than time to see how it all ends! Also I am waiting for book 4 of the Raven Cycle (by fabulous Maggie Stiefvater but it will not be published before fall 2016! ARGH! And… I so wish I could read the second book of The Young Elites (Marie Lu) which was along with Trial by Fire (Josephine Angelini / also highly anticipating the next sequel) one of the best YA books in 2014 for me.

  • Kati Junge

Ah and thanks for the ranking … due to it I will start with the Falconer as soon as I have finished book 2+3 of Grisha 😉

  • Stephanie

I didn’t realize there would be a sequel to Every Day. I don’t remember feeling like it was unfinished… I may or may not check that one out.

I am definitely the most excited for the Lair of Dreams!! The Diviners was so great, definitely keep reading!

  • I really liked Perfect Ruin, excited the sequel is out soon!

  • Beth

WAHOOO! I actually held off on reading Every Day and The Falconer because the sequels weren’t out yet. After years of dealing with that during my Eye of the World series phase and Robin Hobb phase, I promised myself I would wait on reading book 1 until book 2 was coming out…just in case it hooked me. I hate when enough time passes that I forget the characters, or the plot, or whatever.

  • I’m SO EXCITED for Shadow Scale. I’m getting it for myself for my birthday in March. And I have a *signed* copy of The Diviners that I still haven’t read, but I included it on my TBR Pile Challenge this year to encourage myself to read it before the sequel comes out this summer. Actually I’m really hoping Libba Bray will be at TLA with ARCs in April.
