Amazon recently released the Amazon Author Rank page, which is “based on the sales of all of an author’s books on Amazon.com and is updated hourly.” (according to Amazon).
Right now the top 10 authors listed are:
- E.L. James – Eroitca
- Sylvia Day – Erotica
- James Patterson – Mystery, Action
- Suzanne Collins – YA
- Rick Riordan- YA
- Nora Roberts- Romance, mystery
- Bill O’Reilly- Historical, Non-Fiction
- Martin Dougard – Historical, Fiction
- Gillian Flynn- Suspense
- J.K. Rowling – YA
All-in-all YA had a good showing – 3 top young adult fiction authors made the list. And not surprisingly, the top two authors on the list are in the erotic fiction genre. Oh the changing trends.
Amazon Author Rank: Questions for You
There’s been a lot of buzz about this new Amazon feature because of the increased exposure that potential authors can gain from this listing. But what does this mean for readers? So, I’m asking you:
Will you use the Amazon Author Rank to find new authors? Will this effect how you “measure” an author’s success? What do you think about this new feature?
For me, I think it’s a very interesting tool, but it won’t change my buying habits. I don’t know if that’s what Amazon had in mind, but I would just use it to surf for new talent and see if there are any noteworthy authors I may have missed.
It will be interesting to see if Amazon Author Rank will change anything in the publishing world…I’m sure they’re hoping they will!
