Title & Author: Origin by Jessica Khoury

Genre: Young Adult – Realistic Fantasy

Release Date: September 4, 2012

“An electrifying action-romance that’s as thoughtful as it is tragic

Pia has grown up in a secret laboratory hidden deep in the Amazon rain forest. She was raised by a team of scientists who have created her to be the start of a new immortal race. But on the night of her seventeenth birthday, Pia discovers a hole in the electric fence that surrounds her sterile home–and sneaks outside the compound for the first time in her life.

Free in the jungle, Pia meets Eio, a boy from a nearby village. Together, they embark on a race against time to discover the truth about Pia’s origin–a truth with deadly consequences that will change their lives forever.

Origin is a beautifully told, shocking new way to look at an age-old desire: to live forever, no matter the cost.”

About Lisa Parkin

I'm a hardcore lover of young adult fiction and have been reviewing books since 2011. Other interests include Downton Abbey, heat lightning storms, Harry Potter land and (begrudingly) one orange tabby.
  • Haha this is an older book but Peak takes place on Mount Everest!

  • So not original, but The Hunger Games arena is pretty neat.

  • Galena Ostipow

Shadow and Bone is set in a country based on Russia, that’s surrounded by “Darkness” containing rabid creatures. It was a very interesting setting and drove the plot of the book!

  • Samkanatzar

His Dark Materials. I love that the plot takes place in worlds linked directly to ours. Similiar but different!

  • Ready Player One’s Oasis is kind of cool.

  • Katie O’Shea

I loved the setting in The Scorpio Races! It was so vividly portrayed and realistic. 🙂

  • Kah321

    The Hunger Games!

  • Sarah Kalaitzidis

I good setting is in the book “Hemlock” I never knew that a town was called Hemlock before so that is cool XD

  • Holly W

I loved the setting in Seraphina!

  • Mbsmith1

    Can’t wait to read it!

  • Bhwrn1

Thanks for the giveaway! City of Glass.

  • Desiree1612

Oooh, good question. Harry Potter of course. More recently though, Seraphina!

  • Jaguarhero1

The River of Time books by Lisa T Bergren is set in Medieval Italy. A really cool time period & a really cool country! 🙂

  • Susanauribers

  • I like how the Covenant series is set on an island specifically for descendants of the gods.

  • I love the city in the Uglies series. It’s so futuristic and fun with the floating ice skating rink and grids so people hoverboard through the city. Plus all the cool technology : )

  • Another book that has a cool setting that I’m reading right now is Falling Kingdoms – it’s all fantasy and medieval and awesome!

It sounds like this book will be awesome as well. Thanks for the giveaway.

  • Ems

I love the Nicholas Flamel series by Michael Scott because the setting is all over the place. They go from San Francisco to Paris to other realms to ancient Atlantis. It’s pretty crazy, but it works perfectly!

  • B_l2006

I would have to say the Crossroads series. Part of it takes place in a city in the clouds!
    Brittany S

  • I’m gonna have to go with the Hunger Games. It’s the most recent book that I’ve read with an Amazon type setting. Thanks for the giveaway 🙂

  • TayteH

Thank you! And Until I Die in Paris. 😀

The Iron Fey series has a cool setting!

  • Malloryjade

This looks really intriguing! The little sneak peak in the YA Scavenger Hunt won me over!

  • Malloryjade

Lisa Tawn Bergren’s The River of Time series renaissance setting is one of my favorites!

  • Jessika_levine

Another book that has the same kind of setting as Origin is Tiger’s Curse and Tigers Quest by Colleen Houck! Her Tiger’s series is one of my favorites and the jungle setting is what drew me to Origin!!
