Despite a small reading slump I had a few months back, I’m happy to report that there are some pretty amazing novels in my best books of 2012 list. I mean, it has some good lookin’ books right there.

So many of these books were just absolutely stunning. Their worlds were rich, their characters authentic and their stories mesmerizing. So, in my humble opinion, here are my absolute fave reads of 2012 so far.

Best Novel by a Debut Author

Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood

Born Wicked offers an alternate history with witches thrown in – not to mention some hot boys and a fierce girl, fighting to protect her sisters.

Most Original Concept

Incarnate by Jodi Meadows

Jodi Meadows weaves a wholly unique world with fleshed out characters and heart-stopping romance. The idea of reincarnated souls in different bodies was so fascinating to me, and Meadows paints a clear picture of how this works.

Best Series Finale

Black Heart by Holly Black

Holly is a born story-teller. Her tale of Cassel and his amazing curse-working abilities, street-smarts and general mischievousness are stunning. Each book in her trilogy was well-rounded and fully-formed. There was no weak link in these books, and Black Heart was the cherry on top.

Best YA Fantasy

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Throne of Glass has a strong heroine, her even stronger sense of self, a beautifully cruel kingdom and a story that I couldn’t put down. Not to mention some seriously steamy moments.

Most Interesting World/Setting

Glitch by Heather Anastasiu

Zoe is innocent and sweet, but she’s quietly strong too. Plus, she has some smooth self-control for experiencing emotions for the first time.

Favorite Character

Bitterblue from Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore

Bitterblue is so strong being queen at such an early age. But, she’s got a sarcastic sense of humor, a healthy disregard for the rules and a commendable sense of duty for her people.

Best Sequel

Insurgent by Veronica Roth

There are no words. This book is EPIC in its scope of the factions and the serious intensity of a community that is virtually imploding. AGH, BOOK 3 COME OUT SOON!

Fastest Page-Turner

The Selection by Kiera Cass

I could not put this book down. Every chapter ended with a dangling end, and I had to find out where it was leading. MOAR!

Best Book I’ve Read All Year (so far)

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

Under the Never Shy was rich and beautiful and sweet. I’m absolutely in love with Aria and Perry and I’m dying for more. More!!!
