Best Books of 2013 (So Far)

It’s that time of the year – time for my Best Books of 2013 list! I’m so excited to share these phenomenal books with you.

Best Books of 2013 (So Far)

Best Novel by a Debut Author

Cinders and Sapphires by Leila Rasheed

cinders and sapphires leila rasheed best books of 2013

I fell in love with this YA version of Downton Abbey. I flew through the pages and became addicted to the high-class, low-scheming world presented in the book.

Best Sequel

Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo

siege and storm by leigh bardugo best books of 2013

OH MY GOSH. To say this sequel was gut-wrenching and intense is a serious understatement. Bardugo made me scream and want to throw things (only pillows, I swear). She is a masterful writer, and I am dying, DYING to read the final installment in the Grisha series.

Favorite Character

Elisa from The Bitter Kingdom by Rae Carson

the bitter kingdom by rae carson best books of 2013

Elisa should be every girl’s role model. Minus the giant gemstone in her navel. She’s fierce, she can kick your butt and she’s a political mastermind. In this FINAL (*cries*) book of The Girl of Fire and Thorns series, Carson closes with a flourish.

Best New Series

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

the 5th wave rick yancey best books of 2013

I was originally informed about this book by asking on Facebook what books were getting a lot of hype. I agree that The 5th Wave was hyped by excited book bloggers, but it was with good reason. It is an epic, alien-fighting adventure with romance to boot. So killer.

Best Fantasy

Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas

Crown of Midnight sarah j. maas best books of 2013

Throne of Glass made my best books of 2012 list, so there was a ton of pressure for this sequel. It was just as good if not BETTER than the first book.

Most Unique

Pivot Point by Kacie West

pivot point kasie west best books of 2013

Pivot Point combined shifting times and locations with paranormal abilities in a really fantastic way. I’ve never read a story like this one before, and it stood out for all the right reasons.

Best Book I’ve Read All Year

Drum roll please….

The winner is….

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

the fault in our stars john green best books of 2013

So technically, The Fault in Our Stars was published late last year, but I read it for the first time this year. I’ve never read a book that made me feel so much. Raw pain, hope, fear and an overwhelming sense of wonder. I thought about this book for days after I finished and have never highlighted so many passages in my life. Simply stunning.

Please tell me what were the best books of 2013 that you’ve read so far?!

About Lisa Parkin

I'm a hardcore lover of young adult fiction and have been reviewing books since 2011. Other interests include Downton Abbey, heat lightning storms, Harry Potter land and (begrudingly) one orange tabby.
