How I Got the Book: From Publisher
Juliette now knows she may be the only one who can stop the Reestablishment. But to take them down, she’ll need the help of the one person she never thought she could trust: Warner. And as they work together, Juliette will discover that everything she thought she knew-about Warner, her abilities, and even Adam-was wrong.
In Shatter Me, Tahereh Mafi created a captivating and original story that combined the best of dystopian and paranormal and was praised by Publishers Weekly as “a gripping read from an author who’s not afraid to take risks.” The sequel, Unravel Me, blew readers away with heart-racing twists and turns, and New York Times bestselling author Kami Garcia said it was “dangerous, sexy, romantic, and intense.” Now this final book brings the series to a shocking and climactic end.”
It’s All Over
WARNING! Spoilers for Unravel Me are included in this post!!!
I’m kind of speechless. It’s that slow realization that your favorite characters are finished. You’ll never read about their crazy adventures again.
It feels something kinda like this…
Pam, you know what’s up.
The story starts exactly where Unravel Me left off. Juliette wakes up after being shot by Anderson and is being nursed back to health by Warner, much to her shock.
In this book, you can see the most how much Juliette is changing and has already changed. Her thoughts are less fractured and her confidence is rising.
For so many years I lived in constant terror of myself. Doubt had married my fear and moved into my mind, where it built castles and ruled kingdoms and reigned over me, bowing my will to its whispers until I was little more than an acquiescing peon, too terrified to disobey, too terrified to disagree.
I had been shackled, a prisoner in my own mind.
But finally, finally, I have learned to break free.
I loved seeing that shift in her – to stand on her own two feet and not rely on Adam – or Omega Pointe for that matter – to support her emotionally.
The only parts that threw me off a bit where a few confrontations that seemed to last a while and happen at super inappropriate times. I couldn’t help but wonder if in the midst of chaos and loss if those conversations really would have taken place.
Obviously, it’s fiction and all that, but the timing felt disingenuous to me.
Other things you should know about Ignite Me:
- Everyone changes and grows…no one is immune
- Bestie action is just as hilarious and sassy as ever
- Violence is implied but not graphically described (much appreciated)
- Things get resolved (no “you decide for yourself” situations, thank GOD)
Tahereh Mafi is an excellent writer, and I’m so thankful she and I were brought together via the Shatter Me series. Her writing style is refreshing and her characters are squeezeably loveable and amazing. I was so happy that Ignite Me offered a strong finish to this overall stunning series. If you haven’t all these books, I strongly recommend them, including the novellas! Ignite Me will not disappoint longtime Shatter Me fans.
