There are so many books I’m thankful I read this year, and I thought a nice Thanksgiving Day reflection was in order to talk about them.
Aside from my list of Best Books in 2011 so far, I’ve come across some truly amazing novels. Plus, they’ve run the gamut- paranormal, thriller, romance and action.
The best books have been the ones that have surprised me. Either I didn’t have any expectations or they were very low, and the book totally side-swiped me!
Books I’m Thankful I Read This Year
Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini
I really didn’t know what to expect, and Starcrossed definitely surprised me. This novel made my “books I’m thankful I read” list because I started to fall in love with mythology because of this book.
It is different and highly romantic and exciting! I wasn’t expecting it at all.
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
The only thing I knew about the book was the description on the dust cover. That was the greatest gift I could have given myself in reading The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer. It’s dark and mysterious and suspenseful. Just amazing.
It’s one of the books I’m thankful I read because it’s not something I would normally pick up- but it was a fantastic thing that I did!
Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
I’m going to hold off my judgement until the end of the year, but Under the Never Sky has a very real chance of bumping Divergent out of it’s number one spot. This book blew. my. mind!!
I’m incredibly thankful I read Under the Never Sky because it’s become an all-time fave!
The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson
This novel made my “books I’m thankful I read” list mainly due to the outstanding writing. I’m not really into high-level politics, but Carson wrote The Girl of Fire and Thorns so well that I was interested in the tiniest details.
Also, this book had an unexpected heroine who I found to be refreshing and interesting.
Modelland by Tyra Banks
Although this choice may surprise you, I’m thankful I read Modelland for the simple pleasure of knowing I was right. Tyra Banks has gone Looney McCrazy Shorts, and I have the proof- half of an unread novel that’s filled with weird names and spotty grammar.
What books are you thankful that you read this year? Happy Thanksgiving!!
