Five 2016 YA Books Gaining Hype

It may seem early, but 2016 is only 5 months away – whaaaattt?? I’ve already heard some buzz about these early 2016 YA releases!

If there’s anything I’m good at, it’s adding to my TBR…

Four 2016 YA Books Gaining Hype

fangirls in the know read breathe relax featureFangirl in the Know is a new Read.Breathe.Relax. original feature that will help readers stay updated on what their favorite authors are up to next (i.e. after they finish the series we already love). This is VITAL to maintaining our fangirl status.

passenger alexandra bracken 2016 ya book

Author: Alexandra Bracken

On Goodreads: HERE

What the hype?: First, Bracken is the author of the wildly popular The Darkest Minds series, so anything she wrote next would definitely garner some attention.

Next, the premise of the book is very intriguing. It kinda sounds like a YA version of Outlander (I just got like all ya’ll’s attention, didn’t I?!): “Violin prodigy Etta Spencer had big plans for her future, but a tragedy has put her once-bright career at risk. Closely tied to her musical skill, however, is a mysterious power she doesn’t even know she has. When her two talents collide during a stressful performance, Etta is drawn back hundreds of years through time.”

truthwitch susan dennard 2016 ya book

Author: Susan Dennard

On Goodreads: HERE

What the hype?: Dennard also authored a well-known trilogy, Something Strange and Deadly, so her new debut series is garnering buzz.

Again, I was drawn in by the description and I love how this book has its roots in classic fantasy: “On a continent ruled by three empires, some are born with a “witchery”, a magical skill that sets them apart from others.

In the Witchlands, there are almost as many types of magic as there are ways to get in trouble—as two desperate young women know all too well.

Safiya is a Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lie. It’s a powerful magic that many would kill to have on their side, especially amongst the nobility to which Safi was born. So Safi must keep her gift hidden, lest she be used as a pawn in the struggle between empires.”

Tell the Wind and Fire

tell the wind and fire sara rees brennan 2016 ya books

Author: Sarah Rees Brennan

On Goodreads: HERE

What the hype?: I have marked this book down on Goodreads forever ago. I’m a HUGE fan of this author, and this title reminds me of a female version of Cassel Sharpe from the Curse Worker books.

See for yourself: “Tell the Wind & Fire is about a young girl called Lucie who lives in a New York very different from the New York we know: the city is torn between two very different kinds of magic, and Lucie’s own family was torn apart years ago by that conflict. Lucie wears magic rings and carries a burden of guilt she can’t share with anyone.”

I am SO ready!

Pub date: 2016, specific date yet unknown

Untitled (Monster #1)

Author: Victoria Schwab

On Goodreads: HERE

What the hype?: I was completely and fully converted to a Schwabian after reading A Darker Shade of Magic. You know a book is going to be hyped when it doesn’t even have a TITLE or a publication date, and it has a long list of readers who have listed it as “to-read.”

It’s about: “Monster tells the story of a teen boy and girl who never should have met, since their fathers are rival leaders of a divided city where violence breeds literal monsters. Conspiracies and betrayals send the teens on the run for their lives, but together, they could become each other’s worst nightmare.”

Pub date: 2016, specific date yet unknown

When I Wake

Author: Elizabeth Norris

On Goodreads: HERE

What the hype?: I’m personally not familiar with Norris’ work (she wrote the Unraveling series), but this title has gotten a good amount of attention considering it has no cover and no firm pub date.

The book got me with the first line: “Winter’s Bone meets Boardwalk Empire. It takes place in present day, but in a world where Prohibition was never repealed. Seventeen-year-old Maya Whitaker is forced into working as a criminal informant for the Feds in an effort to take down the current king of organized crime, despite the fact that she’s falling in love with his heir apparent, nineteen-year-old Charlie Hollier.”

Pub date: 2016, specific date yet unknown

What 2016 YA books are already on your to-read list?

About Lisa Parkin

I'm a hardcore lover of young adult fiction and have been reviewing books since 2011. Other interests include Downton Abbey, heat lightning storms, Harry Potter land and (begrudingly) one orange tabby.
  • Stephanie

    These all sound very interesting!

  • DisneyAngel55

These books sound great! But I am most looking forward to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child!!! Also of course Red Queen #2 and An Ember in the Ashes #2!

  • I have heard that a new Marissa Meyer book is supposed to be coming out next year. It is called Heartless and is kind of a prequel for Alice in Wonderland. I love her so I am excited for that one!

  • Tanya Z

I’m looking forward to Morning Star which is the 3rd book in Pierce Brown’s Red Rising trilogy. Thank goodness it comes out in January and I won’t have to wait much into 2016 for it!

  • Lisa Schensted

Just SEEING the cover of TRUTHWITCH makes me fangirl! I can’t wait to read that one!
