How Many Books Have You Read This Year?

Reading challenge update time!

Mid-Year Reading Challenge Update

mid-year reading challenge update 2015

We’re more than halfway through with 2015!! How this is even possible, I have no idea.

But that makes it a good time to check and in see: How many books have you read this year? Will you reach this year’s reading challenge goal?

So far this year, I’ve read 66 books out of my goal of 100. According to Goodreads’ tracker, I’m still “on track” and set to reach my goal (unless I somehow fall behind).

A few other stats:

  • New Series: 24
  • Contemporary: 23
  • Sequels: 11
  • ARCs: 56
  • Unrated books: 4

Two things: One, I included the number of ARCs to keep accountable and transparent and in accordance with FTC guidelines.

Two, “unrated” books” means that I either skimmed so much of the book that I decided not to give a formal review or I completely DNF’d it.

The fact that this number has risen to 4 when in the past it’s been zero or two has to say something about my reading habits. I think my ability to stick with a book I’m not feeling has taken a sharp plunge.

Have your reading habits changed over the years? And your tastes and preferences?

Long-time blog readers know I used to read fantasy and scifi exclusively. Now I read a healthy number of contemporary books as well. I love that I’ve expanded my range of books – I honestly feel more enriched and balanced that way.

Next up: classics I’ve been avoiding my whole life.

Tell me: What’s your 2015 reading challenge status

About Lisa Parkin

I'm a hardcore lover of young adult fiction and have been reviewing books since 2011. Other interests include Downton Abbey, heat lightning storms, Harry Potter land and (begrudingly) one orange tabby.

I set a goal of 75, but I am curently at 67 read for the year so I am upping it to 100. With Queen of Shadows, Six of Crows, Frozen Tides, Walk the Earth a Stranger, Vengence Road, and Fire like Ice coming out, I feel like I will be super busy reading this Fall.

I’m a bit ahead of schedule with 84 books but summer is my high reading time. I haven’t broken down my books into categories but I’d say that most of the books are YA, books I read for my job as librarian.

WOW! I now feel slightly pathetic with my 34/52 books read this year! haha But after breaking down my books into categories, I am surprised to see that I’ve read far more contemporary books than I thought! If asked I definitely would have thought “series” books!
    Contemporary: 20!
    New Series: 9
    Sequels: 5

  • Looks good! I will definitely break down the books I read into genres at the end of the year, because I’m curious about what I read myself haha. I’ve read about 28 books so far, and my goal is 30. I set myself a goal I know I would veeeery likely reach, so I can feel good about myself at the end of the year haha. I think I read around 40 books last year, so this year will probably be similar or more. I’d love to have more time to read, but audiobooks have really helped during the times I was too busy to sit down and enjoy a book properly. I tend to give up on books I’m not feeling faster than I used to too! I hate not finishing them, but on the other hand I don’t see why I would waste time on something I’m really not liking very much at all.

  • According to my Goodreads tracker, I’m 2 books behind schedule. I’ve read 13 books so far this year. My goal is 24. I have some catching up to do, but with all the great books on my Kindle, I think I can turn it around.

Twinsies! I’m at 66% as well (I initially challenged myself to read 75 books, but I’ve read 66 so far and it’s only 8 months in….so I bumped it to 100). I’m only making this much progress because I’m listening to audiobooks during my commute and walks. Yay!
I think my tastes have expanded, but I also feel like my criticism has sharpened. Which is not necessarily a bad thing…

  • I’m at 55/75 — about 5 books ahead of schedule. Like you, I’ve also gotten better at not finishing books that I’m not into. My DNF shelf has grown a bit this year. I’ve also been trying to branch out, and I’ve found that I kind of like slowing down and reading big books. My Goodreads challenge for 2016 will probably be much lower than this year because of that!
