How I Got the Book: ARC via the publisher

“Seventeen-year-old Cassie Hobbes has a gift for profiling people. Her talent has landed her a spot in an elite FBI program for teens with innate crime-solving abilities, and into some harrowing situations. After barely escaping a confrontation with an unbalanced killer obsessed with her mother’s murder, Cassie hopes she and the rest of the team can stick to solving cold cases from a distance.

But when victims of a brutal new serial killer start turning up, the Naturals are pulled into an active case that strikes too close to home: the killer is a perfect copycat of Dean’s incarcerated father—a man he’d do anything to forget. Forced deeper into a murderer’s psyche than ever before, will the Naturals be able to outsmart the enigmatic killer’s brutal mind games before this copycat twists them into his web for good?”

Excellent Sequel, Fantastic Series

After reading The Naturals, I wasn’t sure if there was going to be a sequel. So, when I heard Killer Instinct was being published this year, I nearly lost it.

Because The Naturals was AMAZING! And, this sequel was just as good if not BETTER.

Killer Instinct picks up right where the first book left off. The team – Cassie, Dean, Michael, Lia and Sloane – are recovering from the upsetting events that unfolded around Cassie’s mom’s murderer, and things are about to change. A new agent, Veronica, is now in charge of managing the team and she’s about to make everyone start toeing the line.

Which is difficult when the Naturals are needed to help solve a copycat murder – one that looks a lot like the work of Dean’s dad…

You guys, I just how Jennifer Lynn Barnes does it. These books are some of the most thrilling books I’ve ever read. They are fast-paced and impossible to predict. After reading so much, I can see a plot twist a mile away, but not here. All bets are off.

The suspense just might kill you. Seriously. You’ll get a workout because your heart will be beating so hard the whole time.

And, this time around, the love triangle is bit more…triangulary. It’s explored a bit more, and I loved the tension, which was somehow a diffusor of the bigger tension of you know, a murder case.

Plus, the application of the Naturals’ talents are so well balanced: Michael the emotion reader, Lia the lie detector, Cassie and Dean, the profilers and Sloane the statistician. I adore them all and appreciated their individual personalities and what they bring to the story.

Killer Instinct is definitely one of the best books I’ve read so far this year. And, these books are THE best YA mystery/crime series ever.

I can’t say enough positive things about this book. The characters are lovable and endearing and the story is one that I was absolutely glued to. I couldn’t put this novel down, and it’s hands-down the best sequel of the year so far. Killer Instinct is part of a truly excellent series by Barnes and one that I highly recommend.
