Read.Breathe.Relax. is 4 + Epic Giveaway!

HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?! Didn’t I just started blogging yesterday about this crazy YA book “trend” (and a few posts about my post-grad jobless life. gah, so embarrassing)?? Well, YA – and RBR – are here to stay.

After the boring bit where I talk about more embarrassing things, I’ll be giving away….

The RBR Archive No One Should Ever See

A lot of things happen to a blog and the person writing the blog in 4 years. For me – even in the last year – I’ve felt more connected to this community. I love meeting other readers, and I am so thankful I do two different things (the blog and Uppercase) that allow me that opportunity on a daily basis.

Second, thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading. Seriously, anytime you comment, tweet me, email me, etc, it makes my day. You guys ROCK.

As a very embarrassing and hilarious trip down memory lane, I’m going to link you to some dead RBR features that are going to stay dead but never forgotten…

  • State of the Mew-nion: Circa 2011. All the images are broken too, awesome. I thought it would be a great idea to showcase pictures of my cat Meow Meow (I didn’t name him) in my apartment because….???? If you are desperate to see cat pics (the Internet has helped with this problem), my Instagram is chock full, so.
  • Pages & Pairings: Circa 2013. In which I tried to pair books with recipes. This was an OK good idea, but no one was super into it (pageviews were dismal). This probably would have worked better as a round-up style feature.
  • Know Your Book Meme: Circa 2013. I adore funny Internet memes, and there are actually a ton of great YA book ones, but this series was a compilation of funny memes without really adding anything back into the world. I did make a few memes, but honestly, they’re not that funny. It’s ok. I’m not meant to be a comedian.
  • There’s a Plugin For That: Circa 2012. I knew a lot of bloggers at the time who were making the switch from Blogger to WordPress. Although I think a few posts were helpful, there really aren’t THAT many bookish plugins to make your life easier. This has been revamped to be the Bookish Download feature, that has a longer shelf-life and overall practicality.

I love trying new things with the blog, but clearly not all of them can work out. I enjoy being creative and coming up with new ideas, which is good for when I come up with some of these “gems.” πŸ˜‰

4 Year Blogiversary Giveaway

On to the free money portion of this post. Because it’s been four crazy years of me going on about books and reading and shelfies and cats and lists, I wanted to do something big for this blogiversary.

Thank you again for reading RBR. If I ever meet you in real life, brace yourself for a hug. It’s going to happen.

About Lisa Parkin

I'm a hardcore lover of young adult fiction and have been reviewing books since 2011. Other interests include Downton Abbey, heat lightning storms, Harry Potter land and (begrudingly) one orange tabby.
  • Rose Deniz

Congrats, Lisa! I *love* being the first to comment on your blog. Hee hee. I have so many ideas sometimes that I think are so awesome at the time (like maintaining three blogs, three twitter accounts, three pinterest boards, etc all at the same time), so I feel your pain! Thanks for all you do for the YA blogger world!

  • Robin

Congrats, my friend! You are doing a great job and continue to improve every year. πŸ™‚ Keep doing what you love!!!

  • Beth

CONGRATULATIONS! And thanks for sharing those oldies with us. Personally, the pages & pairings makes me happy (and makes me want to try such a thing, but with a book and wine…except I’d fall asleep after 1 glass so it wouldn’t work very well). You’ve come a long way (successfully) and I can’t wait to see what you do with the next 4 years.

  • Kari K

This is amazing! Love your blog and would just say keep doing what you are amazing at! Love all of your reviews and suggestions!

  • I’m so happy for you. I’ve been here since the beginning and have watched your blog become even more awesome day after day!

    • And by “been here since the beginning,” I mean lurking, reading everything, and never leaving comments except for sometimes.

  • Happy blogoversary! And what a great giveaway. πŸ™‚

  • Congrats on your blog anniversary!! I really enjoy checking out your posts!

  • Susan Light

Congrats on four years. Love you the way you are!

I’m semi-new to this blog, but as a fellow book lover I get so excited to read your reviews and have found quite a few new books to add to my wish list!

  • Emily Peterson

You are wonderful! I love coming and reading all of your reviews and little tidbits. Can’t wait for the day when I make above minimum wage so that I can get Uppercase!

I LOVE your blog! Congrats!! Your blog is one of my favorites. I love your reviews because you’re so clear about what you love about the books you review!!

thank you so very much πŸ™‚

  • Geniece Brenneman-Baer

Happy Blog-Birthday!!! I love the blog and Uppercase! You are a YA rock star!!!

  • Kayla @ The Thousand Lives

Congratulations Lisa! I missed all of these features since I didn’t start blogging till the later half of 2013, but the meme one is funny! The “Finnick casting call” one had me laughing way too hard xD The posts I’ve always found to be the most helpful are the ones where you showcase YA authors’ upcoming books! I’ve found several to put on my TBR that way πŸ˜€

  • Jacklin Updegraft

Congrats! This is such an awesome achievement! I honestly love your reviews! I don’t read them as often as I would like but I think your reviews are very honest and really thought out! I also love that you started Uppercase box! I don’t have the money right now but I would love to be able to subscribe to get these amazing boxes!

  • Jessica Hanson

Congrats! I am loving my Uppercase subscription and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the coming months!

  • Congrats, Lisa! I have always loved following your blog and will continue to do so. Have you ever considered making shirts for your blog? Your logo would be perfect for a “reading” shirt and great PR. Just a thought…

  • Amber (@ YA Indulgences)

Congratulations on four years, Lisa! That’s so great. I only launched my blog last year but I would love to have it continue growing over the years.

I think everyone has features that weren’t quite right or didn’t work out. πŸ™‚ I know I have, ha.

Let’s see, something you do well at…I like your current features, Fangirl In The Know and YA At All Cost. πŸ™‚ They’re really great, especially Fangirl. I think something you could “work” on would be kind of clearing up the blog? It seems a little cluttered to me, but just mainly the home page.

    Once again, congrats!

  • rajee

Congrats Lisa Love your work and blog Keep it up!!!

  • Happy anniversary, Lisa! Many happy returns πŸ™‚ And congrats – four years is nothing to sneeze at! And you know, I’m no comedian either… That’s okay, the Earth keeps on spinning anyway πŸ™‚ Hugs.

  • Kierra

Ahh!!! Congratulations on four years!! That’s amazing! I find your discussions really interesting, but I think your reviews help me the most! I love learning about your thoughts on books, as they help me to decide whether to buy a book. They’re seamlessly written as well, which makes it all the more enjoyable to read.

Congrats again and thank you for the incredibly generous giveaway!

  • Amanda

Congrats on the blogoversary! I love the short entries and, of course, giveaways.

  • Sydney

4 years-nice work! I think things like you did above in terms of self reflections are one of the best ways to work on improving your blog. Giving yourself space to acknowledge what is or isn’t working is important!

  • Lisa Schensted

You are one of the most sincere, thoughtful and funny voices I know! I love that you shared things that didn’t work and are always up to try something new!

I don’t have any advice beyond YOU DO YOU and I will read it forever.

  • Ashley Christy

Happy blog birthday! Four years is super impressive. I did it for about a year and I had two co-bloggers, so I can’t comprehend how you do this AND run Uppercase (great idea that I’m totally going to do when I am not on a spending freeze!).

As for the blog, I don’t really have much criticism. I love that your blog isn’t just the daily memes that are everywhere. While I find them interesting, it seems like they are all we see from some people and there aren’t actual reviews/discussions that go in-depth. This is not the case here at RBR! Also, I enjoy that you can criticize a book without eviscerating it. Honest criticism is so valuable, but taking glee just seems unnecessary, plus it isn’t helpful to the reader in a lot of cases!

    Keep up the good work!

  • marypreston

Congratulations!! I like that you are not afraid to try things.

  • I seriously just love the reviews. I’m fairly new to your blog but I have enjoyed stopping by once in a while and read them! Congrats on 4 years! That’s bonkers but amazing! <3

  • emily__lynn

I love your reviews and links to good reads!

  • Jaime

My ONE piece of advice is… don’t change anything! I think you are amazing, and I adore your blog! Keep it up, and I can’t wait to help you celebrate #5!

  • Jasanna

Keep doing such a great job! It’s easy to tell you love what you do!

  • Congratulations on four years! That’s such an amazing achievement!

  • Shannon Wolfert

Happy Blog Birthday, Lisa!! I LOVE the Novel Accessory posts– I’m always on the lookout for cute gift ideas and fun treats for myself. Seriously…your blog is amazing! πŸ™‚

  • Eva

I absolutely love your lay-out and your reviews — they are helpful and unique!!

  • Congratulations! 4 years is such an awesome accomplishment. I don’t have any criticism. I think your book reviews are great!

  • Michelle

I like how “clean” the website looks!

  • I would love to see a book review done on ytube.

  • Catching up on emails. Wishing you a wonderful 4-year anniversary! I’m looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us in the coming years πŸ™‚

  • Just missed it. New subscriber here. Anyways, congratulations!! ^^
