Results: Decade's Best SFF Movies Poll

I posted awhile about the poll going on over at Tor.com for the best science fiction and fantasy movies of the decade. Well, the results are in, and the top 10 movies of the decade are:

  1. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
  2. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
  3. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
  4. Serenity
  5. Inception
  6. WALL-E
  7. Pan’s Labyrinth
  8. The Dark Knight
  9. Spirited Away
  10. District 9
  11. Moon
  12. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

I have SO MANY thoughts about this list, but I will limit it to the following:

  • There are 12 books…not 10; the editors listed their reasons, but I forgot. Whoops.
  • Couldn’t they have combined the THREE Lord of the Rings books into one entry? Yes, they’re awesome, but they’re hogging the list!!
  • Inception was robbed! ROBBED I tell you.
  • Wall-E?? Seriously? I mean, yes it was a great movie, but we’re talking about the best science fiction/fantasy movies of the past 10 flippin years…

That’s about all I can vouch for because sadly, I have not seen District 9, Moon, Pan’s Labyrinth (never will either) or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Oh, or Serenity or Spirited Away. I guess I’m kind of a lackluster SFF movie fan. :/

What do you think about the list? What movies should have made the list instead?

About Lisa Parkin

I'm a hardcore lover of young adult fiction and have been reviewing books since 2011. Other interests include Downton Abbey, heat lightning storms, Harry Potter land and (begrudingly) one orange tabby.

Hmm, Lord of the Rings was good, but I don’t think as good as the rest of the movies on the list. Definitely only deserves one slot. Dark Night should have been above WALL-E. I more or less approve of the rest of the list, except I’ve never seen Moon or Spirited Away.

But you really need to go watch Serenity NOW. Seriously. Quite possibly the best movie EVER. Better than Star Wars. Yes, I said it.

Very interesting list…I really loved Inception, and I’ve never heard of Serenity. I’ve not seen Wall-E…That makes me question this though. Haha. I did enjoy Pan’s Labryrinth…very interesting movie. I think that’s the best word to describe most of these…interesting! :)

I agree with LOTR being one entry instead of three. Although, it DEFINITELY belongs on the list.

I liked Stardust, but maybe it’s not a best-of-decade type movie.

How did Avatar miss the list? It definitely should have been there. And Twilight? What are the qualifications of this list? If it’s box office numbers, then Twilight and Avatar should be on there. Just sayin’

You should see Eternal Sunshine. It’s awesome.
