Well isn’t this fun?! I was tagged by the awesome Margie from Bumbles and Fairy Tales for the TBR tag post!
I’m about to answer every question you
ever never had about my to-be-read pile, a.k.a. the pile of books that if it fell on me would crush me to death.
The TBR Tag
How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
Well, I have a literal TBR pile. Exhibit A:
See, my bookshelves are full. We’re talking two levels deep full. So now my office corner has become a TBR book corner.
Although this mess of books is terribly disorganized and insane, every book I get – whether its a physical book or a digital one – I marked in Goodreads under an “arc” shelf. I like to pick my next read based on a lot of factors (interest, pub date, author), so I like to sort them all in Goodreads.
I like to think it’s a balanced system – neat and orderly online and hellish in real life.
Is your TBR mostly print or e-books
I would say my TBR list is overwhelmingly e-books. But, I also classify books I want to read as “to-be-read,” as they are yet to be read. So, they could be either/or.
Does anyone else consider books you haven’t read as on your TBR list?
How do you determine which book to read first?
I’ve often confessed I’m a VICIOUS mood reader. I cannot force myself to read a book for love or money (<-- I wish!). So, I sort through my "to read" and "arc" shelves on Goodreads, check out reviews on GR and Amazon, narrow it down to a top 5, and then go with my gut. It's a very long process - and sometimes a painful one. I'm often plagued with indecision (in this and many other life-related matters), so it can actually take me an hour or more to decide what to read next. UGH! OH! I dunno if you guys have heard of the Literally app (disclosure: my husband the web developer created it), but he built the “TBR Challenge” feature because I griped about this problem SO MUCH.
The TBR Challenge pulls from your “to read” list and pits two books against each other, helping you slowly narrow down what book you want to read next. I love it!!
A book that’s been on your TBR list the longest?
According to Goodreads, I added Sapphique to my TBR list January 2011. Yikes. It’s been so long since I read Incarceron, that I’ve completely forgotten what the series is even about.
A book you’ve recently added to your TBR list?
Finding Mr. Brightside by Jay Clark. It’s a 2015 YA contemporary that sounds really interesting – something that seems totally different.
A book on your TBR list strictly because of its beautiful cover?
Tangled Webs by Lee Bross. SWOON!! Look at that graphic art!! Plus the premise sounds FANTASTIC.
It’s a classic win-win-win scenario.
A book on your TBR that you never plan on reading?
Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor. #SorryNotSorry.
I just can’t. My heart can’t take any more.
An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited about?
The Dregs by Leigh Bardugo. I dunno if you’ve heard the news but Leigh Bardugo, of the Grisha triology, is coming out with books set in the Grisha world.
The first one’s due out in 2015, and I’m fangirling inside whenever I think about it!!! P.S. She said the title will change, so add this on Goodreads now!
A book that everyone’s read but you?
The Across the Universe series by Beth Revis. I always meant to start them, but now it’s been forever and I’ve lost interest. I still think they sound amazing, though.
A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you?
I’ve heard a lot of great reviews so far for The Infinite Sea – The Fifth Wave #2! I’ve just been lazy in getting to reading it. I so want it to live up to my very high expectations.
A book on your TBR that you’re dying to read?
There are like 193840 books I’m excited about (always), so my top 3 (today) are:
– Shadow Scale by Rachel Hartman: The long-awaited sequel to Seraphina!
– The Vanishing Throne by Elizabeth May: The Falconer was one of my favorite reads last year!
– The Witch Hunter by Virgina Boecker: Described as “Graceling meets Game of Thrones.” I’m IN!
The number of books on your TBR shelf?
I don’t want to tell you. I’m not going to.
…Ok, fine. 797. GAH. I need to re-read this TBR health post I wrote last year.
