Top 5 Bookish Moments of 2015

Now that I’ve written the numbers post (i.e. Year in Review), on to the FUN stuff.

Got a new bookcase

This is not a big deal to anyone else, but I was SO excited about this! My entryway was a sad, unused space that only had two small mismatched bookcases creaking under the weight of all my books.

Now I have this…

I absolutely love it and just stare it sometimes for no reason. I mean, it doesn’t have a cool ladder like in Beauty and the Beast, but it’ll do 😉

Participated in OTSP Secret Sister

I’ve mentioned it the blog and Twitter here and there, but for the past 5 months, I’ve participated in On the Same Page Secret Sister hosted by Book Addict’s Guide, With the Banned and Tripping Over Books.

From the site: “The Secret Sister project is essentially a cheer club. Think Secret Santa but all year round (in 6 month intervals) with less emphasis on big presents, and more thoughtful notes, cards, small somethings sent just to let your secret sister know that you are thinking about her!”

It’s been an absolute blast! I’ve had so much fun picking things for my partner, and I’ve enjoyed the letters and thoughtful gifts from mine. It’s been such a special thing to be involved in. If you’re interested, click the link above -sign ups open January 16th!

Cos-played Tonks at the best Harry Potter Halloween Party EVER

My friend Alexa is incredible. She decided to have a Harry Potter themed Halloween party. It’s one of the best parties I’ve ever attended HANDS DOWN.

All attendees had to RSVP with the character they were going as and no duplicates were allowed (cuz of authenticity reasons, obviously).

I decided to go as Tonks…

I tried spray-painting my hair purple because I didn’t want to commit to dying my hair, but that was a total flop for my dark brown color. I opted for that killer purple wig instead.

My husband went as Lupin (see first photo in the post). He had no idea who that was, so I just said “look like a scruffy professor.” That’ll do, pig.

Meanwhile, Alexa decked out her house. Girl does not mess around when it comes to Harry Potter.

I mean, wow. Just wow.

The night was complete with Hogwarts fare like chocolate frogs, treacle tart, Butterbeer and firewhiskey. Not to mention there was a clue-based scavenger hunt.

No one can top this ever.

Attended the Insurgent premiere

Being a book blogger is like being a regular person except you probably write and read more than most. Which means, free books are the biggest perks you ever get (I’m not complaining!).

So, when I was invited to the premiere of Insurgent, I was STOKED.

Those fancy movie people even printed my name on the movie chairs! So legit, you guys. Next year, I expect a special box seat above the peasants like kings used to get at the opera.

Status goes to my head pretty quickly.

Stuck with the book club another year

Running the blog and Uppercase is incredibly rewarding for me…and can be somewhat exhausting. So, I’m proud that I’ve been an enthusiastic if infrequent book club member this year.

These ladies are hilarious, well-read and super smart. So watch out – they’re taking over the world.

In the past few years, I’ve become enamored of sloths. It’s so strange, but their little faces and lack of speed just warm my heart.

And, wouldn’t you know, my best friend works at Discovery Cove, WHICH HOUSES TWO SLOTHS. She took me to visit this year and I met my new sloth bestie, Lucy.

Squeezing the animals at Discovery Cove is generally frowned upon, so I restrained myself (just barely). GAHHHH, the cuteness!!

Thanks for reading this ridiculous post. What are some of YOUR favorite bookish moments of 2015?!

About Lisa Parkin

I'm a hardcore lover of young adult fiction and have been reviewing books since 2011. Other interests include Downton Abbey, heat lightning storms, Harry Potter land and (begrudingly) one orange tabby.
  • I need to be friends with this HP-party-hosting friend of yours. Stace and I would donate body parts to attend an HP-themed costume party, especially one so well thought out! I love your Tonks, too. YAY!

  • What an amazing year you had! I love the Tonks outfit 🙂 And the bookcase is gorgeous! Many more wonderful bookish moments to you in 2016. Happy New Year!

  • Classy_Girl

That bookcase!! <3 And you made a super cool Tonks, I really need to befriend more Potterheads. All the best for 2016!

Great post, Lisa (and I’m not just saying that because my picture made it into it, haha)! I think one of my favorite bookish moments this year was getting my best guy friend and my husband, both infrequent readers, to read one my all-time favorite series (The Belgariad/Mallorean by David Eddings) and having them both love it. We even all read them at the same time (it was a hardship to have to reread some favorites for the millionth time, but I made it through) so we could talk about them. I knew *I* loved them and so everyone should, but to have them SO excited about the characters that they were randomly texting me about plot points at all hours because they were so into it…that made me a very proud book-pusher. And this year I’ve finally persuaded my husband to read Harry Potter!
