Sequels can go so wrong. So very, very, VERY wrong. But these sequels somehow made it work. Tim Gunn would be proud.
Top Ten Best Sequels Ever
Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas– This book seriously blew me away. I was expecting it to be ok, but it was as good as the first one, for sure.
Fire by Kristin Cashore– This is not so much a sequel as a continuation of the world of Graceling. With my dodgy past with sequels, maybe this is the way to go.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets– Of course. This actually wasn’t my favorite book of the whole series, but I loved how more is revealed about the school and good ole Voldy. Plus, there wouldn’t be any other sequels in this series without the first (#logic).
Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo– Killed me. This book absolutely killed me. I loved every torturous bit, though.
Catching Fire– It was weird to repeat The Hunger Games in this book, and I wasn’t expecting it. That being said, it was engrossing and I couldn’t put it down.
Scarlet by Marissa Meyer– Again, here’s another “continuation in the same world” type deal. But, I know the threads will definitely all come together.
Anne of Avonlea– It’s a classic. That red-headed Anne Shirley is up to new hijinks…like hating Gilbert Blythe. I always seem to stop reading the books once they get married. Oops.
The Crown of Embers by Rae Carson– Yes, yes and yes. This series is just amazing. If you haven’t read it and you love fantasy, buy it now!
The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin– What a mind-bender. I can only hope the Retribution of Mara Dyer will KILL IT like the previous books (while avoiding killing any characters I love).
Insurgent by Veronica Roth– All the secrets are revealed. What comes next in Allegiant, I can only guess.
