Top Ten Best & Worst Movie Adaptations

the witches book to movie

Angelica Houston rocking it out

1The Hunger Games– I loved this take on one of my favorite books of the past 5 years. Plus, the anticipation for Catching Fire is RISING!

2The Witches– by Roald Dahl. All you need to know is that it’s super cute, fairly accurate and Angelica Houston plays a witch. Freaking amazing.

3The Princess Bride– I’ve read the book, which is hilarious and NOT what you think, and it’s just as good as the movie. The movie still wins in my book though, I mean, no one can top “As you wish.” Amirite?

4Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2– I actually thought the whole twist ending was genius and sort of loved how everything went down.

5The Perks of Being a Wallflower– Love, love, love, love. This movie was AMAZING and so like the book. I want to see every movie Emma Watson is in ever.

6Eragon– For the like 10 of you who have seen this CG nightmare, please comment and agree how truly heinous this film was. The cool Sapphira is the only thing that saved bad acting and a low bduge.

7Ella Enchanted– I adored the Cail Carson Levine novel. Although Anne Hathaway did a great job, the movie just wasn’t that good overall.

8Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1– Back-breaking scene. Nuff said. Ok, one more thing – GROSS and UNNECESSARY!

9The Host— I don’t even have the book to compare it to, but now…just no. It was just OK. I do like Saoirse Ronan though.

10The Neverending Story— This movie is almost unrecognizable next to the book. And, I’ve read it. The book is strange and weird. I think I would like it better now. The movie is still amazing, but I just don’t get how they ever got to the same place from the book.

What are your best/worst choices?

That back-breaking scene in BD-pt. 1 was pretty awful, wasn’t it? I included Twilight on my list of the worst because…well, the acting… it’s just awful. 🙁

Neverending Story was horribly disappointing. I remember that one clearly. I’d read the book and a friend had read the book, so off we went with her kids and my niece and nephew. Oh, the disappointment we grownups felt. (The kids didn’t know any different, I think.)

SO many people have had The Perks of Being a Wallflower on their list and I have yet to see it. Maybe I will have to pick it up somewhere this weekend. Great list! Check out my TTT post @ http://bookblogzilla.wordpress.com/

Although I love Jeremy Irons as Brom, I have to agree with you on the Eragon movie. The characters (with the exception of Brom) and the plot were nothing like the ones in the book (especially Angela) and it was such a disappointment because I loved the book.

You know, Eragon is the reason I started reading. I liked the movie, keep in mind I saw it first. Then read the book and was blown away but what really happened. Looooved the book. Thinking back, the movie was not done so well. 🙂
