book endings

1Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows– “The scar had not pained Harry for nineteen years. All was well.”

2The Fault in Our Stars– “You don’t get to choose if you get hurt in this world., old man, but you do have some say in who hurts you. I like my choices. I hope she likes her. I do, Augustus. I do.”

3Anna and the French Kiss– “Because I was right. For the two of us, home isn’t a place. It’s a person.”

4A Tale of Two Cities– “It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known.”

5Breaking Dawn– “‘We have plenty of time to work on it,” I reminded him.'” “Forever and forever and forever,” he murmured. “That sounds exactly right to me.” And then we continued blissfully into this small but perfect piece of our forever.

6The Bitter Kingdom– “‘I”m a good leader, but you’re a great ruler. I am strong enough – man enough – to be subject to you.”…

7Pride and Prejudice– “”With the Gardiners, they were always on the most intimate terms. Darcy, as well as Elizabeth, really loved them; and they were both ever sensible of the warmest gratitude towards the persons who, by bringing her into Derbyshire, had been the means of uniting them.”

8Emma– “‘But, in spite of these deficiencies , the wishes, the hopes, the confidence, the predictions of the small band of true friends who witnessed the ceremony, were full answered in the perfect happiness of the union.'”

9Tuck Everlasting– “And soon they were rolling on again, leaving Treegap behind, and as they went, the tinkling little melody of a music box drifted out behind them and was lost at last far down the road.”

10The Evolution of Mara Dyer– “They rattled my cage to see if I’d bite. When they released me, they’d see that the answer was yes.”

These are beautiful and some of my personal favorites, but I think one was left out. The Green Mile has one of the most beautiful last lines I’ve read: “We each owe a death, there are no exceptions, I know that, but sometimes, oh God, the green mile is so long.”

    Gorgeous.

I LOVED that ending to The Bitter Kingdom. It was gorgeous and SO perfect…and made me fall completely in love with Hector.

Also loved Harry Potter, Anna, A Tale of Two Cities, and Mara Dyer. Fabulous endings in all of them.

    Great list!
