Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2013

Love this topic!! I had the amazing opportunity to read so many YA biggies this year that I’d never gotten around to before. So here goes…

Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2013

1John Green– I know, I KNOW! To make up for this YA sin, I read two John Green books: The Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns. Both were excellent.

2Shana Abe– Abe writes a lot of adult fantasy/romance, so her debut into YA was new to me for sure. If you like her Sweetest Dark series, it seems her adult series is set in the same type of world, so BONUS.

3Victoria Schwab– I actually read Schwab’s Vicious, an adult fantasy read. Somehow I missed her dozens of other YA books, and I plan to remedy that!

4Markus Zusak– With my book club, I dug into the emotional pit that is The Book Thief. So glad I finally read this one – it’s very well-written and will make you cry. Get ready.

5Sarah Rees Brennan– Adore this writer!!! I loved Unspoken and devoured Untold. I’m glad I didn’t read the series last year though because I would have had to wait forever.

6Jennifer Lynn Barnes– Another author who’s written tons of YA. I managed to stumble upon The Naturals. <--Seriously one of my favorites from this year.

7David Levithan– Although Every Day wasn’t a super standout for me, I really loved Levithan’s perspective and idea behind the book. I’d love to read more of his work.

8Rick Yancey– The 5th Wave, guys. AGH!!! I’m holding out hope this becomes a movie or TV series or SOMETHING.

9Patrick Ness– I might have to pick up my courage to read the rest of the Chaos Walking series. The first book was great and a little crazy. I have to know what happens though…

10Richelle Mead– So, yeah. I really loved the first Vampire Diaries book and will def be seeing the movie, so that’s a win. At least I know first-hand what the hype was about.

Which authors did you read for the first time this year?
