About Witchlanders

Goodreads, Amazon, B&N, IndieBound

“High in their mountain covens, red witches pray to the Goddess, protecting the Witchlands by throwing the bones and foretelling the future.

It’s all a fake.

At least, that’s what Ryder thinks. He doubts the witches really deserve their tithes—one quarter of all the crops his village can produce. And even if they can predict the future, what danger is there to foretell, now that his people’s old enemy, the Baen, has been defeated?

But when a terrifying new magic threatens both his village and the coven, Ryder must confront the beautiful and silent witch who holds all the secrets. Everything he’s ever believed about witches, the Baen, magic and about himself will change, when he discovers that the prophecies he’s always scorned—
Are about him.”

About the Author

Website, Facebook, Twitter

Lena Coakley was born in Milford, Connecticut and grew up on Long Island. In high school, creative writing was the only class she ever failed (nothing was ever good enough to hand in!), but, undeterred, she went on to study writing at Sarah Lawrence College. She got interested in young adult literature when she moved to Toronto, Canada, and began working for CANSCAIP, the Canadian Society of Children’s Authors, Illustrators and Performers, where she eventually became the Administrative Director. She is now a full-time writer living in Toronto. Witchlanders is her debut novel.

This or That: Lena Coakley’s Answers

I asked Lena Coakley 5 “this or that” type questions. Check out her responses!

1. Team Peeta or Team Gale? - Oh, I was on Team Gale for a long time, but Peeta finally won me over.

2. Cake or pie? – Both, of course!

3. Twilight or Harry Potter? – HP all the way!

4. Coffee or tea? – I curl up whimpering in a ball without my morning coffee.

5. Dystopians or Mythology? – Well, there are so many great dystopians coming out now that
mythology is getting overshadowed. I’m picking dystopian because I loved reading Divergent
and Bumped recently and because my all-time favorite book is the dystopian novel Feed by MT
Anderson. However, I’m ready to be blown away by the next great mythology!

    Romance all the way!!!!!

  • AmyS.

I’ll go with romance. Book looks great.

    truebloodfan AT rock.com

  • Andra

Can I say both? I’m not a fan of books without action…when all it is are two people running around flirting with each other…but if there’s a book without romance…i hate it! lol so yeah…give me some RomAction! :D

Thanks for the chance to win!

      RomAction…I like it!! haha

  • Anne

Either/or? I couldn’t choose just one forever. I like both romance and action separately or together. Right now, I may be leaning a smidge toward action since I’m reading more urban fantasy than romance or paranormal romance right now.

  • Paula

I can’t speak for your personal experience but if you do it right romance has LOTS of action. I mean, according to me.

    • http://www.readbreatherelax.com Lisa@Read.Breathe.Relax.

Paula, that is SO true! Great point! lol

  • Rebecca Upjohn

Arggh!!! That is a tough one. Today, I’m going with Action with a capital “A”. Great question!

    rebecca(dot)upjohn@gmail(dot)com

  • Christie Harkin

Romance – but the best romances usually have some “action” in them anyhow ;)

  • Nicole

Romance – But you have to have a bit of both too keep me totally interested :)

    • http://www.readbreatherelax.com Lisa@Read.Breathe.Relax.

Yes! I think it has to be a delicate balance.

  • http://www.jocelynshipley.com Jocelyn

I’d choose both too. And I agree that good romance has lots of action!

  • aliraluna

Is really hard because I always say that the book is really good when it has action and romance ( and fantasy <3) but perhaps I will go with ROMANCE ;D btw great book video.

  • Lena Coakley

Thanks so much for coming by to comment, everybody. And thanks so much for hosting me today, Lisa! I must say that Witchlanders is a bit short on romance, but not on action! I love both.

    • http://www.readbreatherelax.com Lisa@Read.Breathe.Relax.

I’m so glad I got the chance to, Lena! I’m excited to check out the rest of the tour!

  • Rachael L

I like when a book has both romance and action but if I had to choose romance would have the slight edge.

  • Stellarbookblog

That’s a tough question – but can I say both? I need to have some action in romance, and I need some romance in action…so Both!
    Great this or that interview!
    stellarbookblog[at]gmail[dot]com

  • Wolfluvr420

Action! I don’t mind a little romance thrown in though.

  • http://everafteresther.blogspot.com Brenna

Both are great… but either one has to be done properly for it to be really great. In that case, I’d probably choose really well done action over romance. Just because romance can get to be a bit repetative no matter how well done it is!

    • http://www.readbreatherelax.com Lisa@Read.Breathe.Relax.

Sometimes romance can get a bit repetitive…I didn’t think of that! haha Great point and thanks for stopping by!

  • SpadesHighReads

I would have to say action… because I usually yell or cry throughout the whole movie when it comes to romance lol … yelling out “kiss her already” “don’t be stupid, go back to him” haha Yes, action will do for me. I will never get bored and there’s always something exciting at every turn.

Thank you for hosting this giveaway!!

  • http://twitter.com/booksake Book Sake

I go with action…I need movement to keep me reading!

  • http://www.naturemoms.com/blog Tiffany

Gotta go with action I think. Any story that combines the two effectively sounds appealing to me though.

  • http://persistentfantasy.wordpress.com/ Kate

Action WITH Romance – mutual exclusivity in this context doesn’t work!

  • http://twitter.com/Pages_turned Amanda Mitchell

Um, both are much prefered. But every book I read has to have some romance in it!
    amercnchic (at) aol (dot) com

  • Connie Tran

Romance, although I wouldn’t mind a little action.

  • GFC Michele Luker

Well, since I have TONS of book boyfriends, I would have to say Romance!!

    jmluker at winco dot net

  • Small Review

Action, but it’s so much better if it has a touch of romance :)

    imagesandwords at optonline dot net

  • Jill K

I’d probably say Action with Romance. So an action novel with romance in it.

  • Kim

I have to say action, but I don’t mind a little romance thrown in as long as there aren’t any terribly raunchy or bodice ripping love scenes. LOL!

  • Melissa Hayden

Oh this one does sound so good. :) And thanks for the quick Q&A. :) Im a Harry Potter fan all the way. ;D
